Description

This listing is for radio equipment evaluation service.
Following the evaluation of the equipment and diagnosis of the problem(s), I can provide expert repairs and restoration for all brands (Collins, Drake, Icom, Kenwood, Ten-Tec, Yaesu, and Others) of vintage and modern Ham Radio Gear including linear amplifiers, station accessories, OEM power supplies, and Astron power supplies.
I have a proven record of being able to repair items that others have said cannot be fixed.
In all but the most extreme cases, this includes equipment that has been damaged by lighting.
I am a degreed Electrical Engineer and have been a licensed Ham (20 WPM Extra Class) for over 48 years.
I have a complete lab which is includes a top-of-the-line Motorola R2600C service monitor with spectrum analyzer and N.I.S.T. Traceable Calibration.
The remainder of the equipment is laboratory-grade instruments from Fluke, Hewlett-Packard, Tektronix, Wavetek, and others.
I have all the tools needed for performing high-quality repairs.
This includes an industrial PC board rework station that can handle through-hole and surface mount technology.
I stock common components and only use OEM parts.
The only exception is when an original part is no longer available.
I do not butcher radios and treat every rig as if it were my own.
The service fee covers complete evaluation of the unit to determine what the problem(s) is and what it will take to fix it.
Memory backup batteries are checked during the process.
Occasionally, more time may be needed with a piece that has multiple failures or an unusual problem.
However, no more than two hours (.00) will ever be charged for an evaluation.
If you elect to have the work done
,
I charge .00 per hour plus parts and roll the evaluation fee into the repair total.
I warranty my work (parts and labor) on the original problem for a period of 90 days.
This assumes that the unit has not been tampered with.
Unless they are lightning damaged or have suffered some other type of catastrophic failure, it takes 4-5 hours to complete most repairs.  It is rare for any repair to exceed 8 hours.
If alignment of a stage is required following repair it will be included as part of the repair cost.
If complete alignment of a radio is requested, the additional time needed will be added to the repair total.
In general, repair and complete alignment of a radio can be accomplished within 8 hours.
Because of the time involved, restoration projects fall outside the normal repair range and will be quoted on a case-by-case basis.
Please ignore the shipping calculator.
Shipping in both directions is your responsibility.
We do not mark up shipping.
The actual return shipping cost will be added to the repair total.
Once you complete checkout, you will be given a job number, direct contact information, and our shipping address.
This is generally done within one business day of receiving confirmed payment.
Please ask any questions before making your purchase.
I would also like to know which radio you would like to have worked on and what the problems are.
There are a number of units, depending on the specific failure, that I am unable to fix due to lack of availability of specialized parts.
Please note that my feedback rating may appear to be low, but that is due to the limited time eBay allows to leave feedback.  Any piece that is older than 5 years is harder to get parts for and quite often the repair is not completed and the unit returned, until after the feedback window has closed.  I have a string of happy customers in the Ham community and would be happy to provide references.
Additionally, even though my eBay listing has been running continuously for the last 8 years, because eBay periodically auto renews my listing the number sold counter resets to zero at each renewal.
Over the 8 year span my listing has been running, I have sold hundreds of evaluation services.
