    Description

The Bust Capped Half Dollar series
is a favorite of many collectors due to its early mintage, beautiful design and relative availability.  Designed by John Reich and first minted in 1807, these coins are more or less available and affordable to serious collectors especially in circulated grades.  Although there are rare dates and varieties, many dates are obtainable because they were commonly held in bank bags and traded between banks as there were no Silver Dollars struck at the time. This allowed many coins to survive in higher grades although uncirculated coins in the series are rare and quite pricey.  The minting process in the early days of our country was a slow and inexact science unlike the system used today.  Coins were turned out on hand operated presses and as a result mintages were low and many varieties exist for any given date.  For these coins to make it to the modern day in any grade they had to beat the odds of circulation, damage by mishandling, "Coin Doctors" and general attrition due to melt, lost hoards and other damage.

he coin offered here is a survivor and is nearly 200 years old.  Imagine that one of the founders of our country may have used this coin in everyday commerce!  Here is a chance to own a great American collectible and to hold a piece of U.S history in your hands!
    This particular example
    is an 1836
Capped Bust Half Dollar that is in Brilliant Uncirculated condition.  This coin shows no wear but does have an obverse planchet flaw on Lady Libertys head which you can see in the pics.  It also has a tiny nick on Libertys neck, noted only for accuracy.  It is priced accordingly for an uncirculated piece.  This coin otherwise has very nice eye appeal with plenty of original cartwheel mint luster, a pleasing silvery color with hints of orange near the rims, and is fully struck. It is in a holder that is not recognized by eBay but is well protected from the elements and a very beautiful coin in spite of the flaw.  Capped Bust Halves were my favorite series to collect over the years and for good reason.  These coins are nearly 200 years old, are works of art, and are scarce in any condition.   It would make a great addition to any high grade Bust Half collection.  Buy It Now and I will ship it out ASAP for Free!
